The song of the Three-Foot bird foretells the death of whoever hears it. The Juan Fernandez Tree affects people in its proximity who may not know how to deal with it by attacking their genitals or causing their breasts to swell. A child may fall sick if he/she is not guarded from malevolent gazes. A good prayer to the moon may determine the fate of a coffee harvest.
Colombian peasants live in the middle of an indomitable nature, in the midst of a violent context. They are witness to formidable beings and forces. My project is linked to this tradition. Based in oral histories (narrated by generous people who have shared with me stories of their relationship with legendary characters,) I have tried to look for a particular sensitivity in the landscape, furthermore I tried to convey the power and wealth of legends in today’s life. Does “the magic word” resist violence?
